Did you know that this is already the fifth time we are organising a Brussels Overload? And even better, the fourth time we will control from the same room? Continue reading for more on what to expect and the history of this event.
This year's edition of the "Brussels Overload" event will take place on October 5th 2019
A fourth edition of the "Brussels Overload" event took place on October 15th 2016.
After yet another successful edition in 2012, a third edition of the "Brussels Overload" event was hosted on November 8th 2014. The familiar concept of 6 hours of continuous ATC - offered from one location in Antwerpen (Antwerp) - yielded yet another record in terms of traffic load. With 200 slots open for booking, pilots were able to choose their airline, aircraft type, and destination/departure airport.
After the success of 2010, a second edition of the "Brussels Overload" event was called for on October 13th 2012. Once more, 6 hours of continuous ATC were offered from one location, this time from Antwerpen (Antwerp). This edition was all about the pilots. Instead of having the pilots book real life flights, 200 slots were opened up allowing pilots to choose their airline, aircraft type, and destination/departure airport. In total, 9 Belux vACC members were at the location: 6 ATCs and 2 pilots. With more movements than the previous edition, the increased interest in Brussels airport was demonstrated. We were able to offer 3 pilots a FS2004/FSX scenery by our sponsor, Aerosoft.
October 16th 2010, an important day in the history of Belux vACC. For the first time ever, the "Brussels Overload" event was organized on the VATSIM network. A massive undertaking for such a small vACC: 6 hours of continuous ATC from one location, 200 bookable real life flights, and just 1 airport. In total, 10 Belux vACC members were at the event location in Leuven (Louvain): 7 ATCs and 3 pilots. With just over 100 movements during the event, all parties involved were very satisfied with this major event. In addition, thanks to our sponsor Aerosoft, 3 pilots who flew in/out of Brussels during the event and within their booked slot times won a fantastic price.
